US Soccer Have Banned Children From Heading The Ball For 'Safety Reasons'

Throwing yourself into heading a size 5 Mitre on a soggy ash pitch could finally about to become a thing of the past for young aspiring footballers.
Well, for American kids at least. Continue

That’s because a landmark legal settlement means that children under the age of 11 will no longer be allowed to head the ball in the United States.
The lawsuit settlement is the result of a class action lawsuit against six youth soccer organisations and will also see limits placed on headers for children between the ages of 11 and 13.
The US Soccer authorities have also vowed to implement new standards of care for youth players suspected of sustaining a head injury, along with the presence of independent health professionals at all matches.
Speaking at last week’s Web Summit in Dublin, former American female footballer Cindy Parlow Cone, whose career was ended by post-concussion syndrome, said the new directives move would cut the number of youth concussions in soccer by 30 per cent.
It might seem an odd rule at first, but it might actually make sense.
