Lewandowski reported to Police for breaking Polish drinking law

When Poland secured their place in Euro 2016 a couple weeks ago, Robert Lewandowski celebrated how most players would on such occasion – by happily guzzling champagne on the field.
Having taken part in Bayern Munich’s last two Bundesliga title celebrations – which famously involve copious amounts of beer – perhaps Lewandowski forgot that in his native country, they have laws against these things. Continue

According to the Telegraph, Lewandowski was reported to Warsaw police last week for breaching Poland’s ‘Act on Safety of Mass Events’:
The law allows states that only “the sale, administration and consumption of alcoholic beverages of no more than 3.5 per cent alcohol is permitted in public”, while point two states that the consumption “can only take place in designated areas”.
The typical alcoholic percentage of a bottle of champagne is around 12%, nearly five times more than the amount Polish law permits to be consumed in public.
Despite the anonymous tip-off to police, the 27-year-old’’s agent laughed off the prospect of a criminal charge: “We don’t take this matter seriously” said Cezary Kucharski.
Lewandowski had only one thing to say in response:

That’s “Cheers!” in Polish. 🍻
