New England manager Sam Allardyce has rebuffed his desire for a post-Christmas break and believes it would help the Premier League at international level, but the question is, would it actually work?
Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore added to the highly-debated discussion earlier, confirming that they are in discussions with the FA and Football League about introducing a winter break.
England managers in the past have been calling for a winter break for years, as Scudamore believes it is an 'integrated calendar' but he 'doesn't know how close or near or far we are because I wouldn't want to compromise those negotiations.'
FA chief executive Martin Glenn has also said that the FA was in favour of a winter break, but said it would not be feasible until the current three-year television rights deal is completed.BREAKING: @premierleague Executive Chairman Richard Scudamore confirms discussions ongoing regarding a winter break. https://t.co/aNnpf5bNqq— Sky Sports News HQ (@SkySportsNewsHQ) July 26, 2016
Glenn said:
"What scared people about winter breaks in the past is the thought of it being between Boxing Day and New Year.
But it doesn't have to be then. It can be after the FA Cup third round in mid-January."
I don't like this idea, the EPL should always be different.
