Slaven Bilic insists one of the Premier League’s big-name managers is going to get ‘slaughtered’ when they finish outside the top four this season.
Bilic begins one of the most exciting seasons in history early when West Ham face Slovenian minnows Domzale in a Europa League first-leg qualifier on Thursday.
Talk around the Olympic Stadium, which West Ham will christen in the home leg next week, is of Champions League qualification but Bilic placed his right hand out and counted on his fingers the managers who, in his eyes, will expect to be in the top four. Continue
‘The managers like Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Antonio Conte, Arsene Wenger, there are five of them and one has to finish fifth — if they are the top five — one of them is going to get slaughtered and they are all big names,’ the Croatian said, curling his little finger down to indicate the unlucky manager.
Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham did not even get a mention — until Bilic remembered he had forgotten to mention him — and the West Ham manager insisted that even champions Leicester City will be aiming to avoid relegation as their priority.
‘Spurs will probably be unhappy to finish sixth,’ he said. ‘Everton, and all that. Therefore when we talk about Champions League, whatever, Europa League, mid-table, it is all very dangerous. Make no mistake.
'I am a confident, over-optimistic person but apart from the top seven clubs on paper everybody is looking forward to 40 points. And that includes Leicester also because we all know what can happen in the Premier League, with Newcastle. A massive club that spent £80m in two transfer windows went down so you better work hard and play good.’
Valid points from Bilic, this season is really going to sizzle.
